Families arrive from all over the country, students carry instruments down quiet dirt roads, and in the evenings you can hear chamber music drifting through the trees. It’s a special time of year here, and at the center of it all is Kinhaven Music School.
What is Kinhaven?
Founded in 1952, Kinhaven is one of the country’s most respected summer music programs. It focuses on classical chamber music, orchestra, and piano, with sessions for middle school students, high school students, and adults.
The campus sits just outside Weston, and the experience is intentionally simple and immersive. Students live in cabins, rehearse daily, and perform throughout the summer. The culture is collaborative rather than competitive, and many families return year after year.
Why families stay nearby
While students live on campus, parents and visiting family members often look for a place to stay during drop-off, pickup, concerts, or shorter visits.
Weston itself is small, and lodging options in town are limited.
A convenient place to stay
COHO Inn and Motor Lodge is one of the closest and easiest places to stay when visiting Kinhaven, located just off Route 100 and a short drive from campus.
Staying nearby makes the visit much simpler. You can get to campus quickly for concerts and events, avoid long drives on back roads, and have a comfortable place to come back to at the end of the day.
Many of our guests appreciate having a reliable home base while they’re in the area, especially during busy weekends.
What it’s like to be here during Kinhaven season
There’s a certain energy in the area when Kinhaven is in session. Even if you’re only visiting briefly, you can feel it in the rhythm of the day and the sense of community around the performances.
It’s part of what makes a trip here feel a little different from a typical summer visit.
Planning your stay
If you’re planning a visit around Kinhaven, it’s worth booking early, especially for opening and closing weekends.
If you have questions about timing, concerts, or the area, we’re always happy to help make your stay easy and comfortable.
